Join the Rainbow City Band!
Rainbow City Band is entering its second decade of service bringing music to the community. Our successful eleventh marching season took us to local celebrations in Fremont, downtown Seattle, and Kirkland, and to
Tacoma and Bellingham to help the LGBT communities in those cities celebrate pride in style. Now, as we get ready to settle down for our concert season, we hope you will join us on stage or in the audience.
Our concert season starts with a fall concert in October (date and venue to be announced in August), followed by a holiday concert in December. As an added bonus this year, we will be performing two concerts with the renowned Seattle Women's Chorus, an ensemble of over 200 singers led by veteran director Dennis Coleman, in Meany Theatre on the University of Washington Campus. In March, the band will wrap up its concert season with our annual spring concert.
Have you been looking for a good reason to dust off that instrument you haven't played in awhile? Join us for concert season and experience the joy of making music again! The band will be holding an information session on the evening of Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at Julia's on Broadway in Seattle. This will be a chance to chat informally with members of the band and learn more about who we are and what we do; rehearsals for the concert season then start in early September. About Rainbow City Band
Founded in April 1998, Rainbow City Band is a non-profit organization based in Seattle, Washington. About 60 musicians belong to the band; we divide our musical year into concert (fall through mid-spring) and marching (mid-spring through summer) seasons. We also have a swing band, Purple Passion, that plays throughout the year.
RCB is a non-audition community band consisting of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and straight members from all around the Puget Sound area. While most of our members are musicians, we also have non-playing members who support the band's rehearsals and performances and—in the summer—a color guard.
Our goals are to develop and sustain our musical talent; to develop long-lasting friendships among our own members and with other musical and LGBT groups with whom we interact; to promote visibility and acceptance of gays and lesbians in the community at large; and to have fun doing it all.
Be a Part of the Band
Rainbow City Band always welcomes musicians at all experience levels—we've got members who teach music for a living, and others who picked up an instrument after 30 years and decided to start playing again. We also welcome non-playing members who help with the administration of the band—managing the band's library of music and helping with the production of our concerts. And in the summer, our color guard welcomes participants at all levels to make us look as great as we sound!
