To The Stars...March 31 2012

A Concert of Celestial Proportions!

Join Rainbow City Band and Rainbow City Orchestra for To the Stars and the Heavens Beyond. RCB will soar to the heavens with Gustav Holst's stunning masterpiece, The Planets, and both RCB and RCO will perform several selections from "2001: A Space Odyssey", including Richard Strauss' "Also Sprach Zarathustra", and Johan Strauss' "Blue Danube" waltz. We hope you will join us for a musical dance amongst the stars. Tickets are available through the ECA box office at (425) 275-9595, or on-line at ec4arts.org

Strings Wanted!

In December 2010, RCB was excited to premier its own orchestra. Now we need you to help us grow! The Rainbow City Orchestra (RCO) is a non-audition community orchestra offering musicians the opportunity to perform in a friendly and supportive environment within the LGBTQ and allied community. Welcoming musicians of all experience levels, our only requirements are the ability to read music and the desire to work with others. Stop in to learn more at an upcoming rehearsal! (As we move into late spring and summer, contact us for rehearsal locations and times.) As with RCB,our goals are to develop and sustain our musical talent, develop long-lasting friendships, and to have fun doing it all.

About Rainbow City Band

Founded in April 1998, Rainbow City Band is a non-profit organization based in Seattle, Washington. About 75 musicians belong to the band; we divide our musical year into concert (fall through mid-spring) and marching (mid-spring through summer) seasons. We also have a swing band, Purple Passion, that plays throughout the year.

RCB is a non-audition community band consisting of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and straight members from all around the Puget Sound area. While most of our members are musicians, we also have non-playing members who support the band's rehearsals and performances and a color guard that performs off-season as well as leading the band in parades during marching season. Our goals are to develop and sustain our musical talent; to develop long-lasting friendships among our own members and with other musical and LGBTQA groups with whom we interact; to promote visibility and acceptance of the LGBT communities at large; and to have fun doing it all.

Be a Part of the Band

Rainbow City Band always welcomes musicians at all experience levels—we've got members who teach music for a living, and others who picked up an instrument after 30 years and decided to start playing again. We also welcome non-playing members who help with the administration of the band—managing the band's library of music and helping with the production of our concerts. And in the summer, our color guard welcomes participants at all levels to make us look as great as we sound!

To find out about rehearsal schedules and locations, or just to find out more about the band and opportunities to participate or contribute, contact us; or, join our mailing list for regular updates on concerts and events throughout the year. Don't forget to bookmark our performance calendar!

Lesbian and Gay Bands of America

Rainbow City Band belongs to the Lesbian and Gay Bands Association (LGBA), a group of 30 concert and marching bands from North America and Australia. LGBA provides a link among lesbian and gay bands to share information, improve the musicianship and organization of its member bands, and encourage the formation of new bands.
