Announcing our 2020 - 2021 Rainbow Connections Season. This year every unifying event will be about how we connect. Many of our performances will be virtual. Some will be scheduled and others you’ll be able to engage with whenever YOU want. But we will stand at-the-ready to come back in-person when it's safe. When we do and until then, you are invited to join us as music makers and fellow artists as we explore our Rainbow Connections! Check out the concerts below:
2020 Rainbow Ball Fundraiser: Haunted Radio Hour - October 24, 2020
Snuggle up on the sofa, dim the lights, and prepare for a haunting hour of radio stories and music. And help support Rainbow City Performing Arts' programming for the coming year!
The Duke's Swing-Along Nutcracker - December 20, 2020 • 2pm Pacific
This year, for our Rainbow Connections Season, we want to take a holiday tradition, The Nutcracker, and present the swing version by Duke Ellington. One of the most longstanding ways that humans connect is through movement and dance. This virtual performance will feature our Purple Passion Swing Band, our full Concert Band, and spotlight our Percussion Section! We tip our hats to our sister band, The San Fransisco Freedom Band, who created the inclusive and engaging Dance-Along Nutcracker concert back in the 80's! We, at RCPA, invite our friends and family to dust off their dancin’ shoes, push their couches up against the wall, watch out for fido, and swing along from home! Our friends at Northwest Swing Dance Company, will also lead our audience in a quick swing lesson so they can impress the neighbors! We will also have a special guest performer, taking on the beastly clarinet parts in the jazz suite, Noelle Fabian Dragon!
Open Artist Night - February 12, 2021
This winter, we'll ring in the new year with performances from soloists and small ensembles among our membership and in the community.
Justice for All: Voices of Change - April 10, 2021
In our third annual Voices of Change concert, streaming on April 10, we will be featuring our first commissioned work for our Amplify Diverse Voices New Works Project. We will premier Kevin Day's Song of Rebirth. In addition to this new piece, we will also be showcasing a special animation in dedication to Marsha P. Johnson and a piece of visual art commissioned from an artist in Port Townsend, where RCPA holds its annual band camp. We will present this work by Mike Biskup in a time-lapse video during the live stream. Prints of the work will be available after the concert.
We are excited to have the Puget Soundworks choir join RCPA with their performance of Light of a Clear Blue Morning by Eric Lane Barnes.
Concert Band Play-Along - June 2021
Help us celebrate Pride in a big way with a special new performance - full audience participation in a play-along concert open to players with all levels of experience!
Storytellers: Once! (Drag Queen Story Time) - TBD
Our Storytellers small ensemble concert explores how we pass down individual narratives between our generations and change the way we collectively view the world. This year's concert, Once!, will be focused on drag queen story time and feminist folklore.
All Seattle Pep Rally - TBD
As soon as we're safely able to gather together for an outdoor performance, our Marching Band and SpinOUT color guard will celebrate the occasion with an All Seattle Pep Rally at Seattle Center. Watch for the date!
